20-year-jail term for man who stabbed another to death over old feud

AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a July Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to 20 years in prison after convicting him of murdering a man in Amman in February 2015.

The court declared the 30-year-old defendant guilty of killing Imad K., on  February 17  and handed him the maximum punishment.

Court documents said that the defendant and the victim had old feuds that were renewed on the day of the incident. 

The two met in the presence of other men and engaged in a heated argument that later turned violent, court documents said, adding that “the defendant drew a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest”.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by the defendant and the rest of the people involved in the brawl but he was declared dead on arrival, despite repeated attempt to save him.

“On the way to the hospital, the defendant threw the knife he used to stab Imad under a vehicle. He later ushered police to where the weapon was when he was arrested,” the court transcripts stated.

The Court of Cassation ruled that the Criminal Court’s ruling was accurate and the defendant deserves the punishment he received.

The Court of Cassation was comprised of judges Mohammad Ibrahim, Yassin Abdullat, Majid Azab, Bassem Mubeidin and Naji Zubi.
