33-year-old man charged with murder of sister-in-law

AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor charged a 33-year-old man with premeditated murder in connection with the stabbing death of his sister-in-law in Ruseifa last week, official sources said.

The 32-year-old victim was reportedly stabbed by the suspect on April 29 following a heated argument, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The suspect was apprehended shortly following the stabbing incident,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The police official said investigators retrieved a knife that was allegedly used in the stabbing incident.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that the suspect stated in his initial confessions to investigators that “he murdered his female relative because he suspected her of causing problems to his marriage”.

“The suspect informed investigators that he always suspected that the victim was constantly interfering in his marriage life and causing problems,” the senior judicial source said.

The suspect stated that he “plotted to murder the victim to revenge her alleged actions and prepared a knife for that purpose,” according to the senior judicial source.

The suspect told investigators that he hid in a sidewalk waiting for the victim to return home, according to the senior judicial source.

“The minute he saw her he stabbed her once in the heart then fled,” the judicial source added.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards by the police.

Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival, a senior medical source said.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered that the seized knife be sent to the criminal lab for analysis, the senior judicial source said.

“The prosecutor also ordered that blood and tissue samples be taken from the victim for further analysis,” according to the judicial source.

The judicial source added that the suspect remained detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigations into the incident.
