AMMAN — The 5th edition of the Seven Mountains Initiative was launched on Sunday to raise funds aiming to cover the treatment of underprivileged paediatric patients at the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC).

The initiative includes a team of adventurous students climbing a mountain with the aim of raising $100,000, which will be fully allocated to support the treatment of patients at the centre, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Director General of the KHCC Nisreen Qatamish and Initiative Founder Louay Shomali renewed the cooperation agreement, revealing that this year’s climbers will attempt to ascend Mount Meru in Tanzania.

Qatamish highlighted the efforts of the team, the founder of the initiative, and the students of the Choueifat School, noting that there is a strong connection between the idea of climbing mountains and facing cancer, both requiring “unparalleled determination”.

Shomali stressed that supporting the KHCC is a national duty for every Jordanian, due to the high costs of treatment and the inability of patients to bear the costs. The initiative launched in 2018 has collected $500,000 worth of donations.
