AMMAN — Figures of the government's monetary collection do not reflect the size of actual e-transactions, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh said on Saturday.

During a meeting organised by the Jordanian Business Association (JBA) to discuss the impact of e-services on facilitating business, Hanandeh said that some 81 per cent, or JD6.5 billion, out of some JD8 billion in government collections comes from e-payments, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The remaining 19 per cent, or JD1.5 billion, constitute some 27 million direct cash transactions, he said, adding that the largest amount of money comes from electronic payments, but the greatest quantity of transactions are cash-based.

He noted that the joint e-government infrastructure has saved between JD60-JD65 million over the past five years in financial and operational expenses. JBA President Hamdi Tabbaa said that countries which score high grades in terms of ease of doing business use the e-system to a high degree.
