82 COVID deaths, 7,183 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Eighty-two COVID-19 deaths and 7,183 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 589,316, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 6,554, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 16.47 per cent, compared with 15.74 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 43,615 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,776,686, according to the statement.

The statement added that 9,417 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 485,507.

The statement added that there are currently 97,255 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 408 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,431, the statement said, adding that 342 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 52 per cent, ICU beds reached 69 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 40 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 72 per cent, 81 per cent ICUs and 44 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 35 per cent, 41 per cent for ICUs and 23 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 3,196 infections in Amman, 1,317 in Irbid, including 246 in Ramtha District, 511 in Balqa, 362 in Karak, 341 in Jerash, 310 in Zarqa, 259 in Aqaba, 221 in Madaba, 205 in Mafraq, 176 in Ajloun, 159 in Tafileh and 126 in Maan, including 40 cases in Petra District.
