AMMAN —   The Kingdom's Representative to the Arab League, Amjad Adaileh, stressed that Israeli incursions and attacks on Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, require all to act and continue efforts at various levels to stop the aggressive behaviour, which is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

Addressing the emergency meeting at the Arab League, which Jordan called at the representative level to discuss the situation at Al Aqsa Mosque, Adaileh stressed the need to take all steps to halt the dangerous escalation and hold Israel fully responsible for any consequences that threaten security and peace in the region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that such violations and attacks necessitate a “unity of attitude”, and prompt increased efforts to stand up to the unacceptable actions perpetrated by Israel, as the occupying power, which entirely disregarded the sanctity of Ramadan and of the Palestinian people's human, legal and religious rights.

Adaileh stressed Jordan's rejection and condemnation of any Israeli acts that could undermine the sanctity of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif. Adaileh also called for joint action to stop all Israeli measures to change the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, and counter the occupying power’s attempts to impose a temporal partition at the mosque.

Jordan continues to protect and care for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, continue maintenance and reconstruction projects at Al Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, based on the Hashemite Custodianship over these sites under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, Adaileh added.

The Arab League, in its final communiqué of the emergency meeting, stressed the importance of the historical Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its role in safeguarding the legal and historical status quo in the city, Petra, reported.

The Arab League, during the meeting held at its headquarters in Cairo, said that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department has the exclusive authority to supervise the holy site’s affairs.
