AMMAN — The Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation's (JEDCO) have signed an agreement with the German Agency for International Cooperation  (GIZ) to support 40 small- and medium-sized industrial enterprises with a fund of up to 368,000 euros through the "Supporting industrial SMEs to promote and sell online through virtual markets" initiative.

The programme is managed by "Trade for Employment (T4E)" project implemented by GIZ, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, according to a JEDCO statement.

JEDCO CEO Bashar Al Zu’bi said that the project aims to raise the marketing capabilities of 40 industrial SMEs to export through virtual markets through financial and technical support.

He added that the support will be provided in the form of grants to 40 industrial SMEs to register through the virtual markets to enable them to sell and export through them. The programme will also include the assistance of an expert in exports and e-commerce to provide training and guidance to SMEs.

JEDCO has obtained this fund based on the success in the first round of the programme which was launched last May, the JEDCO CEO said.

He said that 92 applications were received to benefit from this programme, of which 10 SMEs were granted JD7,000 on a competitive basis.

Bernd Kuzmits, head of Development Cooperation of the German embassy in the Kingdom, said that the support is provided through the "Trade for Employment" project to implement initiatives within the framework of technical and financial support provided by the government of Germany to face the negative effects of COVID-19 pandemic in Jordan.

Marc Hasselaar, deputy head of Mission of the Netherlands in Jordan, said that this intervention connects well with the strategy of the Dutch government to enhance private sector development and exports in order to stimulate inclusive economic growth and generation of decent jobs in Jordan.
