AMMAN — Ajloun’s Civil Defence Department (CDD) has set up a plan of precautionary measures to combat the recurrence of forest fires in the various parts of the governorate, especially the densely forested districts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.
Ajloun CDD Director Col. Hani Smadi said that the governorate enjoys a natural atmosphere with a total land area of 422,625 dunums, including 140,250 forest trees. He explained that the high temperature and the massive spaces of dried grass lead to the eruption and spread of fires.
Smadi said that the CDD formed a forestfire team and provided them with training courses, adding that the CDD’s precautionary measures include establishing agricultural roads in the forests to facilitate and fasten their access to the location of fire, intensifying patrols to protect forests against violations and removing dried grass.
