AMMAN — Saturday marked the third official day of the Amman Design Week (ADW), offering a wide selection of learning and cultural opportunities for designers, families and the Jordanian public at large, the organisers said in a statement.
Supported by Her Majesty Queen Rania, ADW opened for the first time in Jordan on Thursday, commencing nine days of workshops, conferences, exhibitions, talks, discussions and business and networking opportunities, as well as guided tours, performances and food.
ADW activities are centred at three central locations in downtown Amman: The Hangar Exhibition at Ras Al Ain Hangar, the MakerSpace at Jordan Museum, and the Crafts District at Raghadan Tourist Terminal.
Among the highlights of ADW’s day three programme was the Memory Matrix talk.
Conducted by Azra Aksamija, an associate professor at the MIT Programme in Art Culture and Technology, the talk covered a unique monument’s implications regarding future heritage creation, new fabrication techniques and transcultural workshops.
In addition, local designer Sahar Madanat led a talk on human-centred design, addressing what it means to design for people and to tailor products to their specific needs.
Featuring a number of events targeting students, ADW’s Saturday programme also included a university mini-fair presented by the British Council and Education UK, allowing local school and university students to learn more about applying to undergraduate and graduate design programmes in the UK.
Meanwhile, the Little Eurekers Space workshop targeted children, providing hands-on activities teaching the basic concepts of engineering and invention.
More information on the times, locations and descriptions of ADW’s events can be found on the official website www.ammandesignweek.com.
