Anti-human trafficking committee discusses 2019-2020 national strategy

AMMAN — The National Anti-Human Trafficking Committee on Sunday held a meeting to discuss the most pressing aspects of the 2019-2020 national strategy to combat human trafficking.

The meeting, chaired by Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni discussed the priorities of the committee as Jordan has adopted a strategy that focuses on prevention, protection, law enforcement and international cooperation to eradicate the phenomenon.

Talhouni said local laws and regulations reject all kinds of human trafficking, adding that Jordan has signed several related international compacts.

On a related note, Talhouni commended the committee's achievements, mainly the "major" amendments to Article 9 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

The amendments stipulate equal nationality rights for men and women, according to the statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, and is currently pending legislative endorsement.
