Arab Revolt newspaper to be reprinted

AMMAN — Jordan plans to re-print by the end of April the first 100 issues of Al Qibla newspaper (1916-1924), the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported that the Mecca-based bi-weekly, which published news and articles of political, social and religious nature, will be distributed free-of-charge with local newspapers, including The Jordan Times. 

Al Qibla documented the chronicles of the Great Arab Revolt led by Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, who edited part of the four-page paper. Its first editor-in-chief was Muhibeddin Al Khatib.

The paper collaborated then with Reuters and other international news agencies, in addition to Egyptian newspapers.  

The name Qibla, which literally means “direction of prayers”, was inspired by the fact that the publication was printed in Islam’s holiest city, where the Kaaba is.
