Azerbaijan ambassador hails 30 years of diplomatic relations with Jordan

AMMAN — Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Jordan Eldar Salimov on Sunday praised the political, diplomatic, cultural and economic ties binding Jordan and Azerbaijan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Azerbaijan, Salimov said that Jordan was at the forefront of countries that recognised his country’s independence, sovereignty and borders on December 28, 1991.

The ambassador referred to establishing diplomatic relations with Jordan on February 13, 1993, which “expanded the horizons of cooperation between the two countries at all levels”.

Salimov also recalled the Organisation of Islamic Conference Summit, which was hosted by the Moroccan city of Casablanca in 1994, bringing together His Majesty the late King Hussein and President Heydar Aliyev.

Expressing his hopes for increasing the volume of trade, the ambassador also highlighted efforts to operate more direct flights on a regular basis between the two countries.

Both countries’ foreign policy positions enjoy a number of similarities, including respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries and the inviolability of their internationally recognised borders, non-interference in the affairs of other nations, encouragement of dialogue between civilisations and religions and adherence to civilised cultural values, he said. 

Salimov also underlined the two countries’ common stances in regard to international issues.

Lauding the role of Jordanian press in bringing the two countries and peoples closer together, Salimov said that the Kingdom’s media contributed to shedding light on Azerbaijan's culture, traditions, customs and geography.

He pointed out that the Kingdom’s strategic location at heart of the Middle East bolsters its regional and international role, rendering bilateral cooperation between the two countries a “vital” matter.
