The students study a variety of fields including economics, law, development, media, human rights and engineering.

According to the statement, during the reception, the British ambassador said: “It is a competitive process that you have come through to get your scholarship, this year in Jordan we received over 700 applications, 80 of them were interviewed and 24 Chevening Scholarships have been awarded, including 1 fellowship.”

Ambassador Oakden added “We want you to go to the UK because we want you to advance your studies and to come back to your countries qualified We want you to live in the UK where there is tolerance, democracy, accountability and diversity. It is a great chance to network not only in Jordan or in the region but worldwide.”

"The UK continues to play a leading role globally. Home to some of the world's best universities, brightest students and most revered academics, the UK's higher education sector promotes the exchange of information and ideas, as well as the building of knowledge and networks." said head of scholarships at the foreign and commonwealth office, Ben Coates, adding "Chevening scholars find themselves immersed in that world and emerge having grown academically, professionally and personally as a result of their time in the UK."

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, and funded by the foreign and commonwealth office and partner organisations.

Applications are currently open until November 6 for the 2019/2020 academic year with the UK government offering more than 1,500 scholarships. Applications can be submitted at
