Cabinet approves extended tax exemption of goods, services export profits bylaw

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Saturday approved the legal rationale of the amended draft bylaw exempting export profits on goods and services from income tax in 2024 and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the issuance procedures.

The proposed amendment grants tax exemptions on net profits from the export of certain services until December 31, 2033, including computer services, economic feasibility studies, legal, engineering, accounting and auditing consulting, as well as public administration, financial management, human resources and production management consulting.

The draft also extends exemptions to pharmaceutical studies, information technology, online services provided to clients outside Jordan, outsourcing, and television and film production, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The amendments provide tax exemptions for international arbitration services conducted in whole or in part within Jordan, including exemptions on fees for arbitrators, lawyers and experts, provided that at least one aspect of the arbitration involves an international element, such as the nationality of a party, lawyer, arbitrator or the applicable law in the dispute.

The objective of the amendment is to stimulate growth across various economic sectors, create job opportunities and enhance Jordan’s export balance, particularly in the digital economy and emerging service industries.

The Council of Ministers also appointed Fares Lawrence Abu Diyeh as secretary-general of the Ministry of Transport, after he ranked first among the candidates for the position.

The Council also appointed Shaker Adwan as deputy chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Yazan Mahadeen was appointed as commissioner for the reserve, and Mohammad Habahbeh as a commissioner in the authority.
