AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase the fees for government advertisements and government tender advertisements in daily newspapers, to JD1 per word instead of the previous rate of 55 piasters.

The decision aims to enhance governmental support for daily newspapers, enable them gain sustainable revenues in light of current challenges, safeguard the rights of workers and bolster their competitiveness within the media field.

Minister of State for Media Affairs Faisal Shboul highlighted governmental efforts to support the media, including daily newspapers, as they jump onto the “digital transformation bandwagon” while maintaining their paper publications.

The government exerts efforts to empower media spokespeople and provide them with information, Shboul said.

Shboul also referred to the "intensive training" that was provided to media spokespeople within the ministries during the past months, adding that the government will offer the same training to media spokespeople in other governmental and official institutions in 2023.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a 2022 draft law amending the Land Registration Fees Law.

The amendments aim to stimulate investment in the real estate and housing sector, as well as increase the volume of trade in the real estate market by reducing fees charged for sales and grants contracts.

Similarly, the Cabinet passed a 2022 amendment system for the 2022 Groundwater Monitoring System to keep pace with challenges facing the water sector, develop relevant legislation and maintain safe extraction from aquifers.

The system also is intended to support farmers and the agricultural sector by determining the prices of water extracted from agricultural wells in all regions of the Kingdom.

The ministers also accepted the resignation of Director General of the Jordan Post Company, Khaled Lahham.
