AMMAN — Sales have increased at the Kingdom’s clothing and footwear establishments as Eid Al Fitr draws nearer, according to a sector representative.
“There has been revitalised commercial traffic ahead of Eid Al Fitr, especially as the celebration coincides with the end of the month and salary payments,”Asaad Qawasmi, a representative of the garment and jewellery sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce told The Jordan Times on Tuesday.
The purchasing power has improved this year and shopping sites are witnessing a considerable turnout of customers, which has reflected positively on shop owners and sector operators, said Qawasmi.
However, he said that apparel and footwear sales are lower when compared with previous years prior to the pandemic. He noted that “price stability has encouraged consumers to shop and prepare for eid”.
“We are expecting increased foot traffic. During the last three days sales have increased by at least 20 per cent,” Motasem Nader, a Jordanian shopkeeper, told The Jordan Times on Tuesday.
Nader added that this Ramadan, shoppers “started early with their eid shopping, to avoid being caught out by last-minute rush”.
“The last couple of days of Ramdan are usually the busiest, demand for eid clothing is still modest,” according to Ma’mun Ziad, an employee at a clothing shop based in Downtown Amman.
Ziad also said that he hopes this Ramadan demand would at least increase 40 per cent.
