Consumer price index rises 1.09% in first 8 months of 2021

AMMAN — The consumer price index, a measurement of inflation, rate rose 1.09 per cent in the first eight months of the year to 102.14 points compared with 101.04 points for the same period of 2020, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Monday.
In its monthly report, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the DoS said that the index for August went up by 2.01 per cent to 102.68, compared with 100.66 in the same month last year.
At the monthly level, the price index was up by 0.22 per cent in August to 102.68, compared with 102.45 in July, the department noted.
On the cumulative level, the basic consumer price index for first quarter months of the year was 69.04, compared with 68.24 in the same period last year, recording an increase of 1.17 per cent, the DoS figures showed.
The basic inflation for August — measured by excluding the most price-volatile commodities and services, including foodstuff, fuel and lighting, and transport — stood at 68.96 points up by 0.61 per cent from 68.54 points recorded during the same month last year, according to the data.
The basic consumer price index for the January-August period of 2021 reached 68.99 points, marking an increase of 0.92 per cent from the 68.36 points registered for the same period of last year.
