AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Saturday charged a 38-year old man with attempted premeditated murder in connection with the alleged shooting of his wife over a domestic dispute in an Amman neighbourhood over the weekend.

The victim, 35, reportedly was shot once in her abdomen while at home with her husband in an Eastern Amman neighbourhood, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

“The two engaged in a heated argument and the husband ended up grabbing a gun and shooting his wife,” the judicial source said.

The judicial source added that the husband tried to “claim that the bullet was accidentally discharged from his weapon but our investigators did not believe his story”.

“The victim informed investigators from her hospital bed that her husband shot her following a domestic dispute,” according to the judicial source.

The woman remains in fair condition and is expected to survive the shooting incident, the judicial source added.

A second source told The Jordan Times that the husband was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigation.

“Investigator also seized an unlicensed gun that was found in the house and sent to the criminal lab for a ballistic match,” the second source added.

Also Saturday, investigators questioned the family of a married woman who died at her home in Maan from a single bullet wound, the senior judicial source said.

Investigators found a gun next to the victim’s body and sent the weapon to the criminal lab for further inspection, according to the judicial source.

“Criminal lab experts also took swabs from the victim’s hands and other part of the victim’s body to look for gunpowder residue,” the judicial source added.

No one has been arrested in this incident because it is “being treated as a case of self-inflicted shooting”.

“The victim’s husband told investigators that he was not at home when the shooting incident occurred,” the judicial source said.

The source added that police are questioning the victim’s family to learn more about the shooting incident.
