Crown Prince meets UN chief in New York

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Wednesday met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York and discussed regional and global developments and main challenges facing young people.
The Crown Prince conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah's greetings to the UN secretary general, expressing his appreciation of his endeavours to secure peace globally, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Crown Prince Hussein stressed the importance of working with young people, providing them with job opportunities and investing in them, highlighting the large potential they have which should be used to achieve development.
He outlined Jordan's efforts to build generations that are capable of shouldering responsibility and confronting the dangers of radicalism and terrorism.
Ban commended Jordan’s initiative in dedicating a UN Security Council session to discuss the conditions of young people in conflict areas and their role in promoting peace and casting away radicalism
On Thursday, the Crown Prince will chair the open debate on the “Role of Youth in Countering Violent Extremism and Promoting Peace”.
At the session, he will deliver an address focusing on the importance of engaging young people in peacemaking and countering violence.
The open debate will address the connection between youths, violent extremism, sustainable development, and social and economic dimensions.
