AMMAN — An official delegation from the Ravenna municipality in Italy visited Madaba on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the “Mosaic Cities Conference”.

The conference aims to launch an international network for the mosaic cities of the Mediterranean and European cities in October, with the goal of enhancing tourism in the participating countries.

Mayor of Greater Madaba Municipality Aref Al Rawajeeh received the delegation that included deputy mayor for cultural affairs, Fabio Speriglia, and deputy mayor for international relations, Annagiulia Randi. Shermine Dajani, head of Jordanian-Italian Cooperation Forum, also attended the meeting.

Rawajeeh expressed his pride in the strong relations between Jordan and Italy, emphasising that Madaba is known as the world's mosaic city, housing the oldest mosaic map in the world, in addition to its significant religious and historical status.

During the visit, the delegation toured Madaba city, the Hashemite Hall of the municipality and a number of archeological sites.
