Deputies condemn Israeli aggression on Gaza, urge global action

AMMAN — Representatives of parliamentary blocs and the Lower House's Palestine Committee on Wednesday called on the international community and human rights organisations to take a firm stance against Israel's war on the Gaza Strip.

During an oversight session,  aimed to discuss the latest developments related to the Israeli aggression on Gaza, parliamentary inquiries and governmental responses, the lawmakers  urged the adoption of all necessary legal measures to confront the Israeli aggression and ensure holding the Israeli occupation fully accountable  for the crimes and violations committed against Palestinians.

The deputies expressed deep concern over the global silence on the systematic destruction and genocide taking place in Gaza, criticising the international community's apparent indifference to the ongoing events in the Strip, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Highlighting the failure of the international system to deter the crimes and violations committed by the occupying entity, the MPs said that the conflict, resulting in over 18,000 civilian casualties, mostly children and women, cannot be deemed a just war. They also said that the forced displacement of over a million people from their homes to unsafe areas is unjustifiable act of self-defence, classifying these systematic human rights violations as nothing less than war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The MPs also commended the unwavering Jordan’s position, condemning the heinous massacres committed by the Israeli enemy against innocent civilians in Gaza and  tressed the urgent need for a sustained supply of food, medical aid and fuel to the strip.

The Lower House, with a majority of votes, approved a memorandum from the Parliamentary Committee on Public Freedoms and Human Rights, which will be sent to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
