Digital Economy Ministry launches National Entrepreneurship Observatory Report

AMMAN — The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship on Sunday launched the National Entrepreneurship Observatory Report for Jordan for 2023/2024. 

Developed in cooperation with the Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan (UJ) and the German Jordanian University, and supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation, the report serves as a crucial international assessment of entrepreneurship.

The report also provides key insights into Jordan's entrepreneurial environment, analysing the challenges and opportunities facing different sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The report said that Jordan has made significant progress in key indicators, with early-stage entrepreneurial activity increasing from 9.1 per cent in 2020 to 15.7 per cent in 2024, which has boosted the Kingdom's international ranking from 34th in 2020 to 15th in 2024 out of 46 participating countries.

Expert scores in the report indicated a significant improvement in government policies to support entrepreneurship, with the score rising from 4.5 in 2020 to 5.1 in 2024. 

This progress is attributed to government initiatives in line with the Economic Modernisation Vision and the National Entrepreneurship Policy.

The ministry highlighted the importance of the report in improving the entrepreneurial system in Jordan, providing a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and challenges. 

The findings reflected improvements in key entrepreneurship indicators, reinforcing the government's commitment to supporting start-ups, driving economic growth and developing policies to attract investment towards positioning Jordan as a regional hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The report was based on a survey of the adult population, including a random sample of at least 2,000 individuals from each participating country, to assess the percentage of adults starting or running new businesses. It also included input from at least 36 national experts to assess the quality of Jordan's business environment.
