DoS reports drop in area of licensed buildings

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings in the first-third of 2019 reached some 2.2 million square metres, compared with 4.9 million square metres during the same period of 2018, marking a 54.7 drop, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Wednesday.

The area of housing buildings totalled 1.7 million square metres in the January-April period of 2019, compared with 3.6 million square metres in the same period last year, registering a decline of 52.3 per cent, the DoS said on its website.

The department added that the number of licences went down by 41.4 per cent from 12,240 in the first-third of 2018 to 7,168 in the same period of 2019.
