Egypt’s largest daily mulls printing copies at JPF for Egyptian expats

AMMAN — Al Ahram newspaper, Egypt’s largest daily, is considering an offer to print copies at the Jordan Press Foundation’s (JPF) printing complex.

Ahmed Al Sayed Al Naggar, chairman of Al Ahram Establishment, JPF Chairman Samih Maaytah and its director general, Farid Silwani, discussed the issue on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Naggar said Al Ahram will distribute Al Rai’s special supplement on the occasion the Kingdom’s Independence Day on May 25 in Egypt as the first step towards establishing cooperation between the two leading Arab newspapers. 

Al Ahram and Al Rai have the largest circulation in the Arab region an agreement between the two Arabic dailies will ensure greater circulation, he noted.

To examine the possibility of printing Al Ahram at the JPF printing complex and consequently distributing the Egyptian daily in Jordan, Naggar requested a price offer during the meeting, adding that his newspaper is also eyeing publishing joint research supplements with Al Rai tackling common Arab issues. 

Distributing Al Ahram in Jordan will enable the hundreds of thousands of Egyptians residing in the Kingdom to buy their country’s largest and oldest daily from newsstands across the country.

Official figures put the number of Egyptians residing in Jordan at over 600,000.

Stressing the leading role of Al Ahram, Maaytah expressed hope that the distribution of joint supplements during special national occasions in both countries will open new horizons for further cooperation between the two Arabic dailies.
