Environment minister, WHO official talk plan on anti-microbial resistance

AMMAN —  Environment Minister Muawieh Radaideh on Wednesday met Assistant Director-General for Antimicrobial Resistance at the World Health Organisation (WHO), Hanan Balkhi, over supporting the National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (NAP-AMR).

Talks went over the means of enhancing cooperation on the comprehensive AMR-related action during 2022 and 2023, as well as the priority areas for targeted support, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Radaideh stressed the importance of developing Jordan’s environmental sector and strengthening its capabilities to address antimicrobial resistance challenges, which were identified among seven initial countries to benefit from a comprehensive technical package to support implementation of National Action Plan (NAP).

Balkhi highlighted the importance of Jordan’s role, notably its ratification of the NAP-AMR, as the fourth country in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to have ratified the plan. Jordan is among the seven countries that benefit from WHO’s technical support to implement the NAP-AMR locally, she added.
