FM conveys King’s condolences to Saudi leader

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Judeh on Saturday conveyed the condolences of His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Crown Prince Hussein and the government to Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and the Saudi royal family over the death of Prince Saud Al Faisal.

Judeh was in Mecca to attend the funeral service for Saudi Arabia’s former foreign minister at the Grand Mosque, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He commended the late prince’s achievements over his 40-year career, stressing the strength of Jordanian-Saudi ties.

On Friday, King Abdullah sent a cable of condolences to King Salman, according to Petra. 

In the cable, the King expressed his sympathies to the Saudi monarch and people. 

His Majesty paid tribute to the prince’s achievements and his efforts to serve his country. 

Prince Saud, who was 75, was the world’s longest serving foreign minister when replaced on April 29 by Adel Al Jubeir, the then-ambassador to Washington, according to Reuters.

Prince Saud’s tenure covered Israeli invasions of Lebanon in 1978, 1982 and 2006, the Palestinian intifadas that erupted in 1987 and 2000, the Iraq-Iran war (1980-1988), the invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and US-led occupation of Iraq in 2003.
