FM meets Arab, foreign counterparts in Rome

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, on the sidelines of the expanded ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS in Rome and the ministerial meeting on Syria, held a series of meetings with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, Italy, Germany, France, UK, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Greece and Denmark.

During these meetings, they reviewed bilateral relations and ways of developing them, in addition to examining efforts made to resolve regional crises, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi stressed the necessity of finding a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international law and approved international references.

He emphasised the need to provide adequate support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to continue its role and tasks in accordance with its UN mandate.

Safadi also highlighted the need for joint efforts to reach a political solution in Syria, in a manner that preserves the unity and integrity of its territory, restores security and stability, rids it of terrorism, leads to the exit of all foreign forces from it, and creates a conducive environment for the voluntary return of refugees.

He stressed the importance of the international community continuing to hold its responsibilities towards the Syrian refugees, and provide the necessary support to the countries and communities hosting them and the relevant UN organisations.

In his talks, Safadi reiterated the need to support the Iraqi government in its efforts to establish security and stability, and to consolidate the great victory achieved by Iraq over terrorism, according to the statement.
