AMMAN — Foodstuff in Jordan is safe and of "high quality", especially it is imported from countries that impose strict monitoring on its food exports, Raed Hamadah, representative of the foodstuff sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), said on Saturday.

Hamadah added that stakeholders in the Kingdom also check on imported foodstuff to ensure they follow Jordanian standards, noting that all food items in Jordan have received the necessary health certificates, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the value of the Kingdom's annual exports of foodsuff stands at some $4 billion, in addition to the locally produced items. The foodstuff sector accounts for some 30 per cent of the commercial sector in Jordan with over 70,000 facilities across the Kingdom that employ 250,000 workers, Petra said.
