AMMAN – France has condemned the shelling that struck the Jordanian field hospital in Khan Younis in Gaza on Wednesday, leaving several people injured.

“France strongly condemns the shelling that struck the Jordanian field hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza… leaving several people injured. We condemn the targeting of civilian infrastructure, and medical infrastructure in particular, which are protected by international humanitarian law. France offers its heartfelt solidarity to Jordan and calls for a full investigation into this matter,” according to a statement released by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

In the statement, France commended Jordan on its efforts to help Gaza’s civilian population.

“France is directly supporting the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza by both funding and providing medication and medical supplies. Moreover, we continue to work in close cooperation with Jordan on humanitarian efforts in Gaza, as proven by the January 4th joint airdrop of seven tons of humanitarian aid and the deployment of a Jordanian medical team to Egypt using the Dixmude helicopter carrier,” according to the statement.

The Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said on Wednesday that a member of the Jordanian Field Hospital/2 in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, was injured due to clashes around the hospital.

The injured staff member has been later airlifted to the Kingdom for necessary treatment under Royal directives.

A source at JAF said at the time that a Gaza citizen in intensive care unit has also been hit by shrapnel during the ongoing aggression.

Despite significant damage from Israeli shelling, the field hospital continues its medical and humanitarian duty towards the people in Gaza, the source said.

Earlier this month, an aircraft from the Royal Jordanian Air Force and the French Air Force conducted two airdrops in the vicinity of the Jordanian Private Field Hospital/2 in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The assistance included medical supplies and treatment materials delivered via designated boxes equipped with GPS-guided parachutes, aiming to reach specific locations within the necessary timeframes, according to a statement issued by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.
