AMMAN — German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife on Monday visited Azraq refugee camp, which hosts some 25,000 Syrian refugees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During his tour, the president was briefed on the “blockchain” technology used at the camp’s mall, which provides food and products to over half a million Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Cultural attaché at the German embassy, Jaime Sperberg, said that this visit strengthens the Jordanian-German bilateral relations, voicing his appreciation for the Kingdom’s continued support to refugees. He pointed out that “the German cooperation in Jordan amounted in 2017 to 595 million euros on new commitments for development cooperation and humanitarian aid”.

Earlier on Sunday, the German president and an accompanying delegation visited the German Jordanian University’s (GJU) Graduate School of Business Administration at King Hussein Business Park.

GJU’s rector Manar Fayyad said that the university is a “good representation” of the Jordanian-German bilateral ties, highlighting the university’s close relations with a number of German companies and more than a hundred German universities. Later on Monday, the German president concluded his several-day official visit to Jordan.
