Ghunaimat says reducing poverty, unemployment are top priorities

AMMAN — Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Jumana Ghunaimat on Saturday said that the government was industriously working to tackle the concerns of the country and citizens, particularly poverty and unemployment.

During a meeting with citizens in the Northern Jordan Valley, Ghunaimat said that the government had provided 65,000 jobs in the public and private sectors, through which 2,000 people were recruited in the last two months, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Under His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, a ministerial team has embarked on field visits to governorates to meet with citizens and discuss employment programmes.

The ministerial team will meet on Sunday with jobseekers from Irbid, she said.

Ghunaimat said that the government's approach also aims to fairly distribute services and development gains to all of the Kingdom's regions, stressing the efforts to create a national, professional and objective media that will convey the voice of the citizens and the government at the same time.

Ghunaimat said that the spread of rumours has pushed the government to set up the "Haggak Tiraf" (in English "your right to know") online platform to directly address such fabricated news, which she said is hindering the government's economic plans.
