Gov't general revenues stood at JD7.325b in 2021 — Finance Ministry

AMMAN — The government's general revenues rose to about JD7.325 billion in 2021, the Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday. 

The actual collection rate increased by 100.4 per cent, recording an increase of about JD1.087 billion, compared with 2020, the ministry said as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The ministry attributed this rise to an increase in tax revenues by JD668.3 million, and non-tax revenues by JD418.5 million. 

The ministry also showed that it managed to achieve the targeted estimations for local revenues mentioned in the 2021 budget, despite the pandemic, through the financial administration adopted by the government and through the restructure, legislative and administrative reforms in combating tax and customs evasion and avoidance. 

Meanwhile, public expenditures increased by JD647.4 million, reaching a total of JD9.859 billion, or 7 per cent compared with 2020.

This rise was mainly driven by an increase of JD315.4 million in capital expenditures compared to 2020, where the expenditure rate was in line with estimations in the general budget law, taking into consideration the government’s commitment to covering financial allocations to increase the salaries of public sector employees and supporting hard-hit economic sectors.

The ministry managed to reduce the budget deficit by JD451.9 million compared with 2020, and JD239.7 million compared with the deficit estimated in the general budget law for the 2021 fiscal year.
