Gov’t launches 2nd phase of vehicle tracking project

AMMAN — The Ministry of Transportation announced on Sunday that it is proceeding with the implementation of the second phase of the government-vehicle tracking project.
Transportation Minister Anmar Kasawneh signed the purchase orders for the second phase of the project implemented by Zain Jordan in partnership with General Computers and Electronics Co.
The second phase includes an additional 8,500 cars, 1,800 of which are affiliated with the Greater Amman Municipality, the minister said, noting that installing the GPS-based devices, set to begin on May 15, will take 12 months, thus covering all 13,500 government issued vehicles, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Kasawneh added that the 11 public bodies have been covered in the project’s first phase have cut gas costs by 25 per cent, noting that the government’s 2,000cc engine cars, or above, total 384 vehicles.
