Gov't vows 'zero tolerance' against attack on police

AMMAN — The government vows "zero tolerance" against those who attack police and security personnel on their duty, Interior Minister Salameh Hammad said on Tuesday.

He stressed that the reported attack against policemen in the southern governorate of Karak is “rejected and condemned". Seven policemen on Tuesday sustained moderate injuries in a stone pelting incident in the southern governorate of Karak, according to an official source.

The gathering was organised to call for the release of members of the now-suspended Jordan Teachers Association (JTA) council, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. The minister pointed out that the concerned authorities will bring the perpetrators to justice, according to Petra.

Hammad said that the protest in Karak was "not limited to teachers, but also witnessed the participation of partisans, activists and some young people who were deceived, which confirms the presence of entities that attempt to fabricate crises and clashes at the expense of the security of the Kingdom and the interests of Jordanians".
