Health Ministry to facilitate timely access to cardiac catheterisation

AMMAN — The Cabinet has approved a Health Ministry project that seeks to provide cardiac catheterisation to heart attack patients within two hours of suffering the condition at lower costs. 

The project aims to ensure that patients are transported to the nearest government, affiliated-private or university hospital within two hours, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Cardiac catheterisation would typically cost around JD5,000, a figure which would be reduced to around JD1,800 under the health ministry’s initiative, according to Petra.

The project comes in realisation of the importance of providing timely cardiac catheterisation, as the first few hours following a heart attack are vital to maintaining the heart’s condition and reducing the need for open heart surgery.

Health Minister Saad Jaber has formed a committee, which under his leadership seeks to study the mechanism of the project’s operations. 

The committee is formed of physicians from the health ministry, the Royal Medical Services, universities and the private sector, according to Petra.
