AMMAN — Snowfall was reported in several high-altitude areas of Ajloun, some 70 kilometres northwest of Amman, including Ibbin, Iblin, Sakhra, Ras Munif, Afna, Samita and Anjara.

Ajloun Governor Nayef Hedayat has urged residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, warning of the risk of slippery roads and hazardous conditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Also on Thursday, mountainous areas in the southern and eastern parts of Tafileh, some 180 kilometres southwest of Amman, witnessed snow accumulation of some 10 centimetres.

The Public Security Directorate warned citizens of the weather conditions, which brought heavy rainfall and strong winds, which could result in flash floods in certain areas.

Authorities urged the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid flood-prone areas, and refrain from crossing waterlogged zones on foot or in vehicles, Petra added.

Early Thursday morning, rescue teams from the Karak Civil Defence Department (CDD) saved eight individuals of Arab nationality who were trapped by floodwaters in the Al Lajjun area in the Karak Governorate, around 140 south of the capital.

"Responding swiftly," emergency personnel navigated approximately three kilometres on foot through rough and muddy terrain to reach the stranded group. Using special rescue equipment, CDD personnel evacuated all individuals, who were reported to be in good condition, according to Petra.

Meanwhile, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) expected a slight rise in temperatures on Friday, with cold and partly cloudy weather prevailing across most regions of the Kingdom.

Light showers may occur intermittently in the western parts of the kingdom.

On Saturday, temperatures will increase slightly, though cold conditions will persist in most areas.

The Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba will experience moderate temperatures.

Low-altitude clouds are expected, and northwesterly winds will remain moderate.

By Sunday, another small temperature increase is anticipated, maintaining cold conditions across the Kingdom, with milder weather in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
