AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat on Monday discussed increasing agricultural exports to the UAE with the Emirati Minister of Climate Change and Environment Mariam Mheiri, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Stressing the depth of Jordanian-Emirati relations, Hneifat highlighted the importance of trade and exchanging expertise.

The Jordanian minister praised the UAE’s support for the agricultural sector, especially the date palm sector, by signing the 2022 Jordan Dates Festival Agreement between the Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Jordan Dates Association.

He pointed out that the festival, through its previous editions, contributed to promoting Jordanian Medjool dates, indicating that Jordan’s winning of a large number of awards highlights the importance of the date palm sector and the keenness of the government and its employees to provide the highest quality.

Jordan is looking forward to expanding the sector and increasing its global contribution, which currently amounts to 15 per cent of the world’s consumption of Medjool dates, by using additional agricultural areas, he noted.
