House speaker discusses ties with US ambassador

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Sunday met with US Ambassador to Jordan Alice Wells and discussed the latest regional developments, especially in Syria and Iraq.
Discussions also covered efforts to achieve Middle East peace and means to enhance ties.
Tarawneh said fighting terrorist groups is a priority due to the threat such extremists pose to regional and international security.
Wells said her country is committed to assisting Jordan, commending its hosting of Syrian refugees.
The US envoy said she has witnessed firsthand the pressure of the refugee burden on northern governorates.
The US is also committed to working with Jordan to push Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations forward.
