Human trafficking cases on the rise

IRBID — Anti-Human Trafficking Department Commander Col. Imad Zu’bi on Wednesday said 32 human trafficking cases were registered in the first half of 2014, compared with 27 during the whole of 2013.

He said this figure necessitates intensification of efforts to combat human trafficking, noting that recent regional developments contributed to the increase.

He cited the influx of Syrian refugees whose difficult economic conditions allow them to be taken advantage of.

Zu’bi said minor marriages, child labour and exploiting young people in illegal practices are all considered within the scope of human trafficking.
