AMMAN — Chairman of the board of commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Musa Maaytah on Tuesday met with Belgium's Ambassador to Jordan Serge Dickschen on cooperation in enhancing the electoral process.
Maaytah highlighted the latest developments regarding elections and political party laws, steps which were taken to rectify their status and funding mechanism.
Party funding would be determined based on election results and the number of seats each party obtains in parliament, he said. Maaytah reaffirmed the commission's commitment to implementing the laws that govern political life without interfering in the internal affairs of parties.
The Belgian ambassador expressed his country's willingness to collaborate with the commission in supporting the process of democratic reform in Jordan and contributing to the improvement of various stages of the electoral process. Also on Tuesday, Maaytah took part in a virtual meeting with Australian Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers.
Maaytah provided an overview of the establishment of the commission in 2011 as an independent body responsible for managing and supervising the electoral process, aiming to ensure parliamentary elections that align with international standards.
Australian Ambassador to Amman Bernard Lynch, who attended the meeting, expressed readiness to explore collaborative opportunities and provide necessary support to the commission to enhance the electoral process. Rogers commended the IEC's openness to international electoral administrations and its efforts in exchanging experiences.
