Int’l musicians to bring classical concerts cycle to Amman

AMMAN — Noted musicians from across the world are scheduled to perform in Amman next month, as part of a classical concerts cycle organised by the Friends Of Jordan Festivals.

“We are really excited for these two upcoming events, which will include some very special acts, notably a very young music phenomenon coming from Czech Republic,” communication officer for Friends of Jordan Festivals Zaid Shiyyab said 

Described by music critics as “one of the world’s youngest musical prodigies”, 15-year-old Eduard Kollert will be the first musician to perform on February 7.

The Czech violinist, who received the Tchaikovsky Award for the Young Violinists, among other international recognitions, will be playing violin accompanied by his father, pianist Jiri Kollert.

“This first concert will be an unforgettable experience for music lovers, who will have the chance to witness one of the brightest young talents in the field,” Shiyyab told The Jordan Times.

The live concert, which will take place at Al Hussein Cultural Centre in Ras Al Ein on Ferbruary 7, will be followed by another performance a month later, with acts from a French and Japanese duet.

“This cycle is a chance to expose the public to classical music from around the world, with acts coming from various continents which we do not often witness in Jordan,” Shiyyab said, noting that “Jordan has a large number of music enthusiasts who are very keen on seeing the musical scene develop further”.

Lara Abu Hamoud, a 34-year-old Ammani, said: “It can be really hard to find original musical events here in Amman, especially if you are a classical music fan. There is a lot of events during the summer, live concerts and open air performances but, when the winter comes, the offer tends to drop a lot, which is a shame.”

Friends of Jordan Festival’s mission is to “place Jordan as a premier cultural destination with its unique setting of open air musical and theatre performances amidst its rich archeological heritage and World Heritage sites”, according to its website.
