AMMAN — Interior Minister Salameh Hammad and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative to Jordan Christine Matthews on Thursday discussed means to help Jordan shoulder the refugee influxes and other issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Hammad highlighted “the strong and deep strategic ties” between Jordan and the UNHCR, stressing the important humanitarian role of the agency in supporting refugee-host countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Matthews expressed the UNHCR’s commitment to helping Jordan in hosting refugees and providing them with basic services, noting that the commission is aware of the high costs of hosting refugees.
