International will needed to protect cultural heritage — Princess Sumaya

AMMAN — HRH Princess Sumaya has called for an international will to preserve cultural heritage despite current crises. The princess made her remarks on Tuesday at the inauguration of a symposium dubbed “Enhancing inter-cultural dialogue through protecting cultural heritage”, organised by the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies in cooperation with the Italian embassy and UNESCO.
Deputising for HRH Prince Hassan, president of RIIFS’ board of trustees, Princess Sumaya called for acquainting society with the importance of antiquities to pave the way for local and international programmes to conserve and explore them.
UNESCO Representative to Jordan Costanza Farina called for considering cultural heritage as a basis for interfaith understanding, while Italian Ambassador to Jordan Giovanni Brauzzi recommended protecting peaceful coexistence, highlighting the role of religious leaders in reducing hatred and extremism, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
