Internet consumption sees rise during summer

AMMAN — The daily average use of mobile Internet during summertime has significantly increased this year, especially with the arrivals of Jordanian expatriates, according to experts.

“The onset of summer is accompanied with increases in consumption of certain products and services… and Internet traffic tends to increase because more people come to Jordan during this time,” Samah Darwish, a Jordanian internet pioneer and marketing expert, told The Jordan Times on Saturday.

A drop in Internet traffic is usually connected with the commute time and late night hours, according to Darwish.

Darwish attributed the increased daily Internet use to the growth in remote services, remote work and social media usage.

According to the most recent report by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), the prevalence of mobile telecommunication services in ratio to the population in the Kingdom stood at 67.47 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022.

During the same period, technology-based fixed Internet broadband subscriptions reached 447,118 via fibre technology, the report added.

“The number of Internet users, which is increasing day by day, and the constant shifts in the ways people utilise Internet, have definitely led to the growth in the volume of mobile Internet usage,” Jordanian digital marketer Baraa Awad told The Jordan Times on Saturday.

According to Awad, many international reports and research studies have shown that individuals spend as much as eight hours online every day.

“Another thing we must not forget is that Jordan has one of the youngest populations in the world, and they use social media and Internet maybe more than any other individuals in other age groups,” Awad added.
