AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met with Head of the Iraqi National Alliance Sayyid Ammar Al Hakim and an accompanying delegation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, held at Basman Palace, His Majesty and Hakim discussed the latest developments in Iraq, amid Baghdad’s drive to root out terrorists in control of Iraqi areas.
His Majesty stressed that the security and stability of Iraq are Jordanian interests, renewing the Kingdom’s support for Iraq in its efforts to overcome present challenges, especially the terror threat.
For his part, Hakim highlighted the importance of Jordan's presidency of the Arab Summit, to be held in March next year, and its role in supporting pan-Arab causes, including Iraq’s efforts to restore stability and resume its role in Arab joint action.
The Iraqi leader outlined the efforts to achieve national reconciliation in Iraq, commending the Jordanian support, led by His Majesty, in this regard.
He stressed that the Iraqi government gives utmost importance to enhancing economic relations with Jordan, noting the need to secure border crossings and the highway that connects the two countries, as well as implementing the Aqaba-Basra oil pipeline.
Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Senate President Faisal Fayez met separately with Hakim, Petra said.
Mulki said Jordan will stand by Iraq to enable its government and people overcome the current crisis, emerging “stronger than ever”.
He stressed the importance of Iraq as a key trade partner for Jordan and a “dear neighbour”, Petra reported.
Fayez commended the “deep rooted” and “brotherly” relations between Jordan and Iraq, calling for unity among all segments of the Iraqi community against extremism and sectarianism.
