Iraq, Jordan discuss ways to combat cross-border drug trafficking

AMMAN — Interior Minister Mazen Faraya on Monday met with the president and members of the Iraqi Parliament's Anti-drug and Psychotropic Substances Committee over means to boost bilateral cooperation in many sectors, with a special focus on anti-narcotics efforts. Both sides expressed this eagerness to join efforts to address shared security challenges and cross-border drug trafficking, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Faraya highlighted the crucial role of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army in monitoring the borders with Syria, which stretch over a distance of 375 kilometres. Adnan Juhaishi, chairman of the Iraqi committee, highlighted the ongoing Iraqi efforts and the active role of the parliament in combating the drug trade through specialised committees.
