Irbid man questioned over fatal stabbing of teen daughter

AMMAN — Investigators on Thursday brought a man in for questioning in connection with the stabbing death of his teenage daughter to death in Irbid on Wednesday night, official sources said.

The 15-year-old girl was reportedly stabbed by her father in the family home, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The victim’s father confessed to murdering his daughter over a family feud,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that the victim was visiting her grandmother’s house. “When she returned home, her father engaged in a heated argument with her and stabbed her to death,” the source said.

“In his initial testimony, the suspect claimed that his daughter was using her mobile phone without his knowledge,” according to the senior judicial source, who noted that the authorities are still questioning the suspect.

Forensic experts seized a switchblade knife at the crime scene and sent it to the Forensic and Laboratories Department affiliated with the Public Security Department for further analysis, according to the senior judicial source.

The forensic team also collected blood and tissue samples from the victim for further analysis, the senior judicial source added.

A team of government pathologists, headed by Ali Shotar, performed an autopsy at the Irbid National Institution of Forensic Medicine. The team concluded that the victim received over 25 stab wounds, a senior medical source said.

“The victim received stab wounds to her chest, stomach, back and legs,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The senior judicial source said the Criminal Court prosecution office started questioning the suspect, and will summon the victim’s family members for further questioning.

The Criminal Court’s prosecutor ordered the suspect detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation into the incident.
