AMMAN — The Italian Design Day (IDD), an annual theme-based global event, has kicked off in Swefieh Village in Amman, organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration and with the support of the Ministry of Culture, according to an Italian embassy statement.

The IDD, which launched in 2017, offers promotional events created by a network of embassies, consulates and Italian Trade Agency (ICE) offices.

The annual event has established itself over the years as “an effective instrument in supporting the promotion of design and the internationalisation of a strategic industrial sector for Italian exports”, the statement said.

The theme of the 2021 Italian Design Day is “Project and materials: new challenges for the sustainable recovery of the Made in Italy”.

The IDD aims to stimulate a new approach to “ever newer development scenarios, capable of improving our lives and protecting the planet”, said the statement.

The event is focused on the artistic exhibition “The drawings of Vico Magistretti” to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous architect and designer. Another exhibition was set up in Ramallah for the Design Day Palestine in honour of Magistretti, who was born on October 6, 1920 and died in September 2006.

At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Fabio Cassese said: “Magistretti worked with many important companies throughout the world, establishing himself as a leader in the fields of design, architecture, industry and art creation”.

“We are happy to share this wonderful exhibition with our Jordanian friends, who are always so hungry for novelties and innovation, especially coming from Italy,” the ambassador continued.

Leading Jordanian businesses will exhibit designer furniture and objects, accessories and tools from the most important Italian brands in the Kingdom.

The Italian Design Day exhibition is open to the public from October 10th until October 12th from 5pm until 10pm on the underground floor in Swefieh Village.
