AMMAN — The Japanese government, in partnership with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, handed over equipment and machinery, purchased within Japan’s emergency grant aid to Jordan, to local municipalities at a ceremony at the Zarqa Free Zone on Sunday, a Japanese embassy statement said.
Japan has allocated around $10 million to equip “the neediest Jordanian municipalities with 103 vehicles, in order to mitigate the impact and burdens shouldered by local municipalities in garbage collection, water supply and sludge treatment”, the statement said.
“Within this grant, 16 wheel-loaders, 69 compactors, nine water tankers and nine vacuum trucks … were purchased,” according to the embassy.
“It is my earnest hope that this donation will enable the government of Jordan to provide timely and reliable services for the Jordanian people…” the statement quoted Ambassador Shuichi Sakurai as saying.
