TOKYO — Hundreds of Japanese activists on Sunday gathered in Tokyo’s city centre in a eulogy for the victims murdered by the so-called Islamic State.
Participants lit candles and raised banners honouring Haruna Yukawa, a private security contractor who was captured by IS during a visit to Syria; Kenji Goto, an independent journalist; and pilot Muath Kasasbeh.
The participants assembled at Hachiko Square in Tokyo’s Shibuya neighbourhood.
One participant raised a banner that read: “I am Kenji, I am Muath.” while another activist raised a placard that said: “From all Jordanians to our brothers in Japan: We are together.”
